Duffield & Associates Solicitors
Founded in 2002
The importance of settling matters causes us to try to find practical solutions that work for each individual client. It is always the preference, initially, to try to settle both parenting and property matters by consent with the other party before proceeding to litigation. We are experienced in all aspects of alternative dispute resolution, including mediation and negotiations and conferencing and have a particular interest in the benefits of alternative dispute mechanisms especially in relation to matters involving children. This enhances the outcome for both parties and their children.
Our Principal Lawyer
Peter Duffield

Peter was admitted to the Supreme Court of Queensland in 1997 having read law and business for his bachelor’s degrees. His admission to the High Court of Australia followed very quickly thereafter and the Master of Laws was subsequently conferred on Peter by the University of Queensland in 2002.
Peter brings a wealth of experience having practiced in multi-disciplinary areas combining family law with corporate law and litigation. Peter provides advice in respect to all areas of family law including divorce, complex parenting matters, complex property disputes, relocation, de facto relationships, same sex relationships, spousal maintenance, child support, domestic violence orders, child protection (DOCS), paternity testing and family estate disputes.

He appears in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, Supreme Court, District Court, Magistrates Court and Childrens Court.

He assists his clients through a legal process which can be particularly traumatic for those who are separating or otherwise vulnerable.

Peter's interests in family law are wide ranging from cases involving complex child related proceedings, such as relocation cases involving allegations of child abuse right through to complex property disputes involving businesses, trusts, companies and large property settlements. His interests in international family law matters inspired his admission to the Supreme Court of England and Wales in 2009.

Peter is a long standing member of the Queensland Law Society. Peter also worked as an accountant for an international firm of accountants prior to being admitted as a solicitor. This experience has assisted Peter's clients in relation to property matters and the understanding and interpretation of financial statements and taxation returns.

His passion in law is found in his desire to gain new skills through continued further education, specialised training, teaching and applying those skills in practice.

Peter is the founding member of Duffield and Associates Solicitors.
